Maria Felix
“Many feminine images have ignited the fantasy of the Mexicans. But the myth of María Felix is different—such a woman —with the audacity to defy the ideas machos have constructed of what a woman should be...she disperses the clouds, or illuminates them with the lightning flash of her gaze.”
—Octavio Paz, Mexico’s Nobel Prize-winning poet
Maria Felix was one of the biggest actress in Mexico. During the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, she portrayed as a strong and sexy leading lady in nearly fifty movies. She became an icon during its golden age in the 1940s - a period of resurgent national pride. the incarnation of the strong, sexual woman, who would, nevertheless, be tamed by machismo before the end of the movie.
She was a muse for several writers like Octavio Paz and famous artists like Diego Rivera.
A homage to the Latino actress and her penchant for flamboyant hats and big gaudy diamonds.
